Exciting time for Keystone Opportunity Center—community support is tremendous, but the needs are great—so we need the generous spirit to continue—not just through the holidays.
Launching the Key Holder Campaign- this week with hopes of generating new interest and regular donations from local businesses,
community groups and private individuals with a passion for our mission--Rich

New opportunities for the Keystone Education Department- when state Adult Education funding was reallocated for the 2011-2012 school year, Keystone was the recipient of nearly twice as much funding as the previous year, thanks in part to the positive achievements of the students. Lots of exciting new opportunities are now available for our students.

Education Updates

  1. New directions in Adult Education—state focus on funds and programs
    1. State Education department consolidated and reallocated funding
    2. Program focus is on job readiness and preparation for work force
  2. How has that impacted Keystone Education?
    1. Increased funding in Adult Education and Family Literacy programs—almost doubled for 2011-12 school year.
  • Additional staff, shifts in management and programs
    • Numbers of teacher and classes
    • New administrative positions- Case mangers and staff development
    • Numbers of students served in each area
      • ESL
      • Civics
      • GED—sub contracting
      • Family Literacy
    • Support of local groups—many provide rent free facilities to use for day and evening classes—list them
      • Souderton Police Department connection
  • New, exciting pilot program- Held at Advanced Living retirement facility in Lansdale- ESL for seniors—focus of class—explain
  • Need of education program- ESL volunteer tutors-Classroom aids

  1. State of Keystone—moving forward in difficult economic climate
  2. Key Holder Campaign- reduction in government funds, rely mote heavily on private donations to provide matching funds and more consistent donations—helps planning, budgeting
  3. PANO- recertification- Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations
  4. Holiday programs- donors still needed for thanksgiving and Christmas
  5. Volunteers- always looking for a variety of community members to help with our
    varied needs
  6. Food Pantry- experiencing greater demand for products—we are keeping up, but barely. November 19 Boy Scout Food Drive- hoping to raise over six tons of pantry products. If you are interested in donating, but have no scout
    troop canvassing your area, you can drop off donations at 142 Main Street in Souderton on November 19 between 10:00a.m. and 3:00p.m. or stop at the food pantry during working hours at 104 Main Street to deliver donations anytime. Especially in need of protein rich items like peanut butter, canned meats—tuna, chicken, stews, meaty soups.
