Plan approved: Upper Gwynedd’s commissioners have approved a plan Monday to subdivide the site of the former Giant supermarket on Sumneytown Pike at Church Road into three smaller lots.

“The ball is back in their court to take the next step, and we’ll see what they do next,” said Township Manager Len Perrone.

No tax hike for Lower Salford

LOWER SALFORD >> Next year’s proposed budget doesn’t include a tax hike, Township Manager Joe Czajkowski said at the Oct. 18 Lower Salford Township Board of Supervisors morning work session meeting.

That would keep the township property tax rate at 2.689 mills, equaling a $524.40 bill for a home assessed at $195,016, which was listed last year as the township average.

Graterford prison replacement, SCI Phoenix, is 'state-of-the-art'

SKIPPACK >> The stony, towering walls of Graterford State Prison that secure more than 3,000 inmates will soon be replaced with a high-tech, newer version.

The prison, which was constructed in the 1920s, will soon be closing down for a newly constructed prison that officials say will better serve the purposes intended for a correctional facility.
