Philly man headed for trial in alleged North Penn car thefts

WHITPAIN >> A 22-year-old Philadelphia man is headed for trial in a North Penn car theft case after waiving his preliminary hearing in district court.

Jahmir Dwight Smith, of Garman Street, appeared with his public defender in Whitpain district court and opted to waive the proceedings. Prosecutors withdrew misdemeanor counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and loitering and prowling at night as part of the waiver agreement, records indicate, but Smith still faces trial on 17 other criminal counts, including felony counts of auto theft, conspiracy and receiving stolen property and multiple counts of misdemeanor theft from a motor vehicle.
